What Causes Pain Inside The Cheek In A Tobacco User?
Hi. I've been chewing and dipping tobacco for a long time, and for a few days I've been having a pain, although small, but progressively getting worse in my jaw, actually inside my cheek, on the side where I chew the most. There are no lesions or swellings, just the pain for now. I'm terrified of jaw/mouth cancer. Should I go to the doctor to have it examined, or wait for a few days? My teeth are rather healthy and I just have a little bit of receding gum where I chew.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain pain inside cheek where you dip tobacco can be due to inflammation and there is also a possibility that the mucosa inside cheek is getting atrophic or thinned out leading to pain and there can also be a beginning of oral submucous fibrosis which also leads to pain and burning on inner cheek as well as gradually the mouth opening gets reduced.. It should be taken care of as the probability of oral cancer in tobacco chewers seems to be high but as of now you it does not seems like cancer but you need to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation can be diagnostic.. As of now you can apply analgesic gel containing choline salicylate over the inner cheek, take ibuprofen for pain and take multivitamin and anti-oxidant like Lycopene.
Hope this information helps..
