What Causes Pain On Right Lower Side Of The Stomach?

My husband is having pain on his right lower side of his stomach. He has no other symptoms other then the pain which can be severe at times. What could be causing this? He has been taking 2-4 motrin every 6-8 hrs for the last 6 weeks due to a back injury.
