What Causes Pain Under The Rib Cage Despite Taking Acid Reflux Medication?
I went to the doctor due to a severe burning and pressure . I was diagnosed with acid reflux and given 2 antibiotics and a stomach medicine. I have been taking them for a week. I now have a pain under my lower right ribcage and shoulder blade. I am also belching and bloated constantly. The burning is gone but why am I having these other symptoms now?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. Pain under right rib cage with shoulder blade pain is pathognomonic of gall bladder inflammation. This also can give bloating and other problems. Continue medicines for acid reflux disease but go immediately to ER for clinical evaluation, examination and investigations. Ultrasound of abdomen is almost diagnostic. Also get blood tests of CBC, liver and kidney function. If gall bladder inflammation is present you will need surgery. If any other causes are found you may need medical management.
