I have a swollen lower lip with little bumps on it. Its swollen more on the bottom left side. My lips we re really dry and I started using the coco butter Vaseline on my lips. One day I started to feel my lips tingling. One bump appeared and I eventually scratched it. A day or two later more bumps appeared. I was still applying the coco butter Vaseline on my lips Because they we r dry. Now I have several little bumps and something that looks like a red rash on my bottom lip and my bottom lip is swollen. I stopped using the coco butter Vaseline and is using regular Vaseline for my cracked dry bumpy lip. I took Benedryl today which seem to help a little. What do you think it is and what should I do?
I would like to keep a possibility of herpes labialis. Herpes labialis presents as grouped, discrete fluid filled bumps along with tingling or weird sensation that may precede the eruption. Herpes simplex virus is usually acquired by direct (skin-to-skin)contact with an infected partner. Classically in herpes labialis the eruption may also recur at some other time. Recurrence is caused by re-activation of Herpes simplex virus that resides in neural ganglion i.e it may multiply from time to time and subsequently migrates along the nerve to form these bumps. I suggest that you visit a doctor for a confirmatory diagnosis. Treatment of a confirmed herpes labialis is with Oral antiviral e.g acyclovir or valacyclovir for a week.
