my husband, 74 yrs old had a sudden onset of a painful, lump on his left buttock. It s very low, definitely on the cheek but not far from anus. It s palpable and feels hard but also like a deflated balloon filled with water. It s painful for him to sit. There s no discharge or redness to the skin. He saw his PCP and was given a corticosteroid cream yesterday but it hasn t helped at all so far. He also was advised to make an appt with a surgeon for a 2nd opinion because PCP was not sure exactly what it was.
Yes I agree with your PCP you need to get it examined by a surgeon. Being a surgeon myself we get a lot of similar referrals . Majority of the cases need surgical attention. To take a call on if he should have a trial of conservative therapy or surgical attention he will have to be examined by a surgeon.
