What Causes Painful Deep Purple Bruise On Hand?

While on a boat, I tripped and hit the back of my hand, resulting in an immediate deep purple bruise, along with the fact that it bent far forward. It has been eight days since then, and it is very painful, especially when any pressure is involved, such as lifting or pushing. I was wondering if anyone has any idea of what happened, and what I should do to treat it, and if it is serious enough that I should visit my doctor. Thanks,Eliza

Hello,

As per your case history, you have traumatic purpura. My treatment advice is -
1. Don't squeeze the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a soothing lotion like calamine lotion on affected region twice daily.
3. Take a vitamin c supplement once daily for three months. If the problem persists then consult a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
