What Causes Painful Heartbeat While On Medication For High Blood Pressure?

I'm a 69-year-old female with slightly elevated BP controlled with meds but otherwise in good health. Recently I've been experiencing very hard single hearbeats (sometimes almost painful) throughout the day. No other symptoms, but they're making me nervous.

Palpitation is what you are describing. The sensation of single beats is reassuring. In the office, I usually recommend nothing but reassurance. If symptoms don't resolve on their own, a long term monitor to try and catch the abnormal rhythm and tie it to the symptoms that you feel is useful. Once you know what it is and that it doesn't matter, that alone makes it bearable.
