What Causes Painful Lump On Shin Bone?

I have a sore knot in middle of shin bone and knee I touch it and can feel the knot and hurts like the dickens. What is that? No Runner. I'm 67, 5-5, 176 lbs., No broken bones ever. Have Heart issues. I'm very active but do not run. A lot of hills I have to walk up here.
