What Causes Painful, Raised Spots On Right Knee?

right knee has red raised spots and its been there for about 4 years and sometime my knee hurts if I try to run.WHen I was in the army I landed wierd off a truck onto the trailer hitch and could hear a pop in my knee.I never did fall I just landed wrong.
