What Causes Painful Sores On The Scalp Causing Hair Fall At Their Site?

I Have been getting extremely painful sores on my scalp for years. they will break out for a few months as blisters which turn to scabs. they are very deep and cause the hair at the site to fall out. then they will disappear for months, but always come back eventually. I have been given antibiotics, steroids etc, and nothing has worked. I have been told its staph, lupus, allergies and hormones. One thing that I know is that they are always in the same pattern/area, and behind my eyes hurts during the outbreak. please help!!!

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello,

As per your case history, you are having scalp folliculitis. My treatment advice is -
1. Avoid hair oil application for 1 month.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like fusiderm cream twice daily on it.
3. Take an NSAID like ibuprofen for 5-7 days.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like levofloxacin, cefadroxil, and azithromycin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
