Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Painful Stiffness In The Arms After Doing Physical Work?
When I ve used my arms the last couple of days for work, I can only lift my arms afterwards with a great deal of stiffness and pain. I used a manual post hole digger yesterday and did a moderate amount of work (less than I would normally do) and about 1/2 later I found it difficult to lift my arms. Less stiff today, but after doing some physical work like lifting moderate weight and using a hammer, the same stiffness. It s unusual.
It is normal to get muscle stiffness after running a moderate physical work especially in persons who do not train every day.
I advise to:
- take analgesic medication you find over the counter
- apply analgesic cream locally
- apply alternating hot and cold compresses on your stiffed arm.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini,
