What Causes Painful Swelling Between The Ear And Cheek Despite Taking Antibiotics?

I went to the doctor with what I thought was an ear ache.He said my ear is perfectly fine. The problem he thinks is an infection in my saliva gland which is apparently blocked for some reason so he ordered me some antibiotics which I have been taking for the last two days. The swelling and the pain between my ear and the side of my cheek has not gone away yet! could it have been a miss diagnosis?

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of painful swelling between ear and cheek despite taking antibiotics which seems to be due to tooth infection and cystic cavity on that particular quadrant and it could be due to salivary gland obstruction leading to swelling.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to visit oral surgeon once and get complete examination done and start treatment accordingly. Go for IOPA of that particular quadrant and if infection is severe get root canal treatment done. Take sugar free candies to enhance salivary flow. Drink plenty of water. Go for manual bidigital palpation and start treatment of salivary obstruction. Give warm compresses to ear 2-3 times a day.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
