What Causes Painful Tenderness In The Nose And Upper Palate Of The Mouth?

Hello Dr. Rynne. I am having some sudden awful tenderness, pain and discomfort in my nose and the upper palate of my mouth. My nose is not swollen or red, it is warm to touch and it is so significantly tender even when i lightly touch it. The discomfort behind from the top of the nose bridge down to my upper mouth palate. All this started last night. I checked and i see no swelling or bump either inside or outside. I have had no trauma to my nose also. Can you please help me?

Thanks for the query..

The symptoms of tenderness of nose and upper palate with warm feeling can be due to sinus infection or Sinusitis.

As the sinus lies in close proximity of that area pain and discomfort can be probably due to it..

I would suggest you to consult an Emergency room and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like PNS view x ray can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

You can be advised a course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, decongestants like Pseudoephadrine, do saline nasal irrigation, steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room..
You can also be advised decongestant nasal sprays containing Xylometazoline or Oxymetazoline..
Do warm compresses around nostrils..
