Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been prescribed DICYCLOMINE which is the generic for Benfyl. I have seen ads for Viberzi. There is a warning out for Viberzi. It can cause risk serious pancreatitis in patients without a GALLBLADDER. My ballbladder was removed. I do not have a gallbladder. I need to be assured that DICYCLOMINE is not at all like VIberzi (eluzadoloine). I do not want to take DICYCLOMINE IF IF IF is anything like VIBERZI, and could cause danger to me if I take it, because I do not any longer have a gallbladder. I told my doctor that I do not any longer have a gallbladder. I hope she remembered. Office closed now.

Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Malik's Response
Hello and wellcome,
Dicyclomine (Benfyl) and Eluzadoloine (Viberzi) have different mechanism of actions and they are not the same drugs. Viberzi works through opiate receptors which may constrict the sphincter of Oddi where biliary and pancretic ducts open and may cause pancreatitis. Therefore, Viberzi is contraindicated to you if your gallbladder was removed. Benfyl is an antispasmodic medicine that prevents and treats spasm in the muscles of the gastrointestinal tract. Benfyl can be used by the patients whose gallbladder is removed.
I hope the above information will be helpful for you. Please, feel free to ask me if there is anything else you need to know.
Thank you, Malik Amonov MD
