My Dad is 69 years old, and has had bladder cancer in the past, but is fine now. He sees is urologist regularly for tests. Lately he has been passing tissue when urinating. Darker red in color (not blood clots). Urine color is normal. No pain during urination. No pains anywhere else What might be causing this?

Urologist 's  Response
Hello Welcome to HCM..
I am really sorry to hear this about your dad..
But do not worry, I'm here to help you out.

I thank you for posting your query here...
I being a surgeon, we encounter so many such cases day in and day out...
I read your question completely and have understood it well enough..

I will analyze all your points and provide necessary explanation and how to go about..

1. Previous history of bladder cancer...
This is always a risk for recurrence of cancer again!
Don't worry, I'm not trying to scare you but we should rule it out definitely before we think of anything else..

2. Old age again is a risk factor for cancer bladder..
Hence, I suggest further evaluation..

3. Urine color is normal but passing red color tissue..
Well, this could be altered blood itself.
Or, sometimes the denuded Mucosa from bladder is the content.
Could also be RBC casts..

4. No pain.. That's good..
But please evaluate further..

5. Suggest you these things..

A. Urine routine and microscopy
B. Urine Cytology
C. Cystoscopy

With this, we will come to know what exactly is this and treat accordingly..

Hope this helps you, in case you need any further assistance, please let me know..
Take care and God bless.
