What Causes Patchy Hair Loss In Beard, Head And Eyebrow?

patchy hair loss - stared with patches in beard spread to what was left of hair on head and now half an eyebrow is gone. Time period of over 8 months. Age 60. Three stents 3 years ago on Lipitor, coversyl and asprin. Little regrowth in beard but finer white hair but no regroth on scalp. As far as I am aware I am not stressed in any way so dont think such is the cause.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi.
As per your case history you are suffering from Alopecia Aerata.
My treatment advice is -
1. It is a self limiting disease. So don't worry.
2. It may be associated with systemic disease like diabetes and thyroid dysfunction. So get it checked.
3. Apply a tacrolimus 0.03 %ointment twice daily on patches.
4. Other treatment options are oral levamisole, steroids taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Thanks.
Dr. Harshit bhachech.
MBBS, DDVL.
