What Causes Persistent Bleeding During Bowel Movements?
I have been a lower intestinal bleeder for years and no one seems to find where its coming from. I had a partial colectomy done but I continue to have bloody stools. Dr. says they cant seem to have any thing wrong with me even though I have been cat scan over 30 times, several blood transfusions yet theres nothing wrong with me. What is my next step. I can only eat very little food or it will cause pain and bloody bowel movements.
bleeding continuously during defection since long time could be due to piles, fissures, fistula or rarely any growth in colon or rectum etc as you had also past history of partial colectomy.
First u get examined by surgeon to rule out above possibilities.
You may need some more investigations like stool examination (routine micro and ova/cyst), upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy to rule out any internal bleeding cause.
You may see your operating surgeon who can start below treatment.
1) Take quinolones antibiotics with antiprotozoals, 2) Anovate or Dobesil cream or ointment to be applied over anus after defecation, 3) Hot seitz bath, 4) Sit naked in hot warm water for 15 minutes 5)Avoid alcohol, 6)Avoid oily and spicy foods.
