What Causes Persistent Cold Symptoms With Tiredness?
I am a sixty eight year old male who has been in reasonably good health all my life and I am extremely active. I am not overweight and do not smoke. I had a prostetectamy due to prostate cancer in 2005. I have had cold symptoms for several weeks and I can t seem to shake them. I am also unusually tired all day. I saw my doctor last week and he prescribed an antibiotic for me, but it didn t seem to make any difference. I had mononucleosis when I was young. Could I have it again? Or, could it be something else. I can t get in to see my doctor until 7/29/2014. Should I try to see someone in urgent care?
Thanks for your question on HCM. I can understand your situation and problem. Since you had prostate cancer and mononucleosis in the past, your present symptoms of cold and tiredness can be due to following conditions. 1. Recurrence of infectious mononucleosis. 2. Upper respiratory tract infection (URTI). 3. Lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI - pneumonia). 4. Lung metastasis. So better to consult pulmonologist and get done 1. Clinical examination of respiratory system. 2. Chest x ray. If x ray is normal then possibility of URTI is more. So better to start antihistamines and anti inflammatory drugs. Avoid oily and spicy food. Drink plenty of fluids orally. Do warm water gargles 5-6 times a day. Don't worry, you will be alright.
