What Causes Persistent Diarrhea?

Hi, I have had stomach issues for quite some time now and only in the last year or so have I done some tests. I was told that I have the gene for ciliac disease (which is shocking to me as I have know in my family that I know who has ever had it). Anyhow, I have gone gluten free. I eat good, I am in good shape, I exercise regularly, and still everyday around the same time I have diarrhea. Sometimes 3 or four times a day. I have also cut down on dairy products, i.e. coffee with cream, cheese as I might have a dairy issue as well, but I really don t know. I don t know what else to do. I am so frustrated. I thought about a colonoscopy, but I cant do that until I turn 50. Not sure I have a question, but maybe some advice before I go off the deep end..

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Persistent diarrhea indicates intestine flora disturbances from various issues. My recommendations at present:
- Drink more liquids.
- Adhere to strict dietary measures.
- Add intake of probiotics as daily supplement.
- If colonoscopy cannot be possible till the age of 50 years, take a CT scan of abdomen pelvis with basic lab tests to get the diagnosis at primary junction.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
