What Causes Persistent Headache And Sore Throat?

My ten year old daughter has complained of a headache for three weeks. She also has had body aches, primarily back aches, sore throat, slight fever, nausea, decreased appetite and photo sensitivity. Most of these symptoms have ceased except the headache and sore throat. Her neck also hurts and looks puffy around the middle of the neck, like a band. Yet, I can t feel any swollen glands. She also complains that her throat feels tight when she takes a deep breath. We ve been to the doctor three times. Two strep tests and one influenza test were negative. An MRI also was done and came back normal. Two CBC tests have come back normal as well. She describes her headache as pins and needles in the frontal part of her head, above her forehead, spanning from left to right. The only other interesting fact is she had a stainless steel crown put in four days before her first symptoms appeared. We are awaiting results for mono and valley fever. What else could this be? Could it be viral meningitis even though her white count is normal?

Hi,

The detailed history of asthenia like symptoms which you have mentioned probably suggests some sort of viral infection.

If MRI Brain came back normal and there are no clinical signs of meningism, then meningitis may be unlikely.

A headache is often associated with viral illness and may persist even after that.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
