I broke a tooth over the weekend. Dentist filled it and said maybe it needs a root canal. Said nerves weren t exposed. But since the visit,I ve had pain in left ear. The tooth is on the upper left. Also I was diagnosed with tmj 3 years ago I ve had constant pain since then. It went away for a few months this winter but its back. My question is it tmj again or has it been this tooth the whole time? Like maybe it was cracked for years?
Well, if the pain in your ear started after the tooth has been filled, the pain can be due to radiating pain from the tooth.. But in case if the pain was still previously present then it is probably TMJ.. So my suggestion is to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated.. First of all an x ray of the tooth should be taken and if the nerves are not exposed then a Panoromic x ray should be done to check your TMJ, so that the cause can be ruled out.. As of now you can take anti -inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen to relieve pain and take a soft diet.. Once the exact reason will be found out then the treatment can be initiated..
Hope this helps you..
Regards.
