What Causes Persistent Low Hemoglobin In A 70 Year Old?
My father in law is 70 years old. His hemoglobin is 6 and not increasing after almost since year while he was having hemoglobin between 12 & 13 earlier.
His bone marrow test is not positive. His endoscopy results are good. Doctors are not able diagnose the cause for low hemoglobin. He is doing all his routine with much trouble. Drives scooter and goes to office sit their for 4-6 hrs daily. Only complaint he has is weakness and etching on body.
Can you recommend doctors in Coimbatore whom we can consult?
I am sorry to hear about your father in law who is having problems with low hemoglobin. With his hemoglobin being that low 6 he may need additional blood transfusion to get his counts up to normal levels. Your doctor has already investigated the most common causes of low counts, blood loss from the GI tract and inability of the bone marrow to make blood. Your doctor may need to investigate other causes like an auto-immune disorder where the body is actually destroying its supply of blood, low erythropoietin which is the hormone to stimulate blood growth
I wish you luck in finding a doctor who can investigate further into your father in laws
