Hi,

As per your complain persistent pain in jaw along with difficulty in chewing and pain during opening the mouth seems most probably be due to disorders related to jaw joint also known as Temporomandibular joint also known as Temporomandibular Joint Disorder or TMJ/TMD. It can also be due to causes like dental infections, gum flap inflammation around wisdom teeth or wisdom tooth problems, bruxism or teeth grinding habit, teeth clenching habit etc.

I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician or an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated and he can do a clinical evaluation and also advise you investigations like full mouth x ray also known as Orthopantomogram or OPG. Treatment of the underlying cause can help in resolution of the symptoms.

As of now you can take anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen and muscle relaxant like Chlorzoxasone. Take a soft diet and avoid excess mouth opening.

Hope this information helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks and regards,
Dr. Honey Nandwani Arora
