Dear doctor, I ve been to a party (2 days ago and I don t go often to parties) and since then I ve got a beep sound in my ears. One day after it was a quite annoying sound but now it s reduced a little. To be honest, I didn t realize that the sound was that loud and I didn t even get near to the speakers. Is this a worst case scenario for my ears? Is this beeping sound going to stop? Could this be fixed? With kind regards, Roland
Sound levels at parties are usually higher than safety level of what a normal average person's hearing sensitivity. Problems following exposure to loud sound may be immediate or delayed, may be temporary or permanent, partial or total, reversible or irreversible. Exposure to a loud sound even a single and transient is enough to cause damage to ear.
You need to have audiometric test at least once so that it's progress can be decided and prognosis can be predicted in follow-up audiometric investigation and a treatment protocol can be planned accordingly. Ringing in ears may get off but can't predict. All depends on how serious your inner ear or a sensory nerve affected.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
