What Causes Persistent Vertigo With Severe Cough And Cold?
I had vertigo three times within the last 10 days. The last episode two days ago. I have a bad cold that has been ongoing for a week now. I have coughing spells. No fever, no chills but I lost my voice. It is very raspy. My chest is tight but does not hurt with no noises that I can hear. My cough is kind of dry. I am 51 yr old female. In good health other than this cold.
In my opinion your symptoms are related to an upper respiratory tract infection with impairment of the inner ear. This could explain the dizzy spells.
For this reason, I recommend consulting with your GP for a careful physical exam and some tests: - a chest X Ray study - a sinus X Ray study for sinus infection - complete blood count, PCR, ESR for inflammation. Meanwhile, I recommend taking some rest and take plenty of water. If your symptoms do not improve, it will be necessary to consult with an ENT specialist to exclude an inner ear disorder (as a complication of the upper respiratory tract infection).
Hope to have been helpful! Kind regards, Dr. Aida
