What Causes Phlegm With Dark Blood Spots In Spittle Every Morning?

Hello Dr,I went to ENT specialist for throat infection and diagnosed GERD and in medications now.PAN D tablets before food morning and night. Also I am a smoker for past 20 years, I am 39 now. I reduced smoking now 1 or 2 per day and Nicotex gum during craving.Also my doctor did Scopic diagnosis and identified reddish Vocal cords. Somedays morning when I spit I got a phlegm with dark blood spots with it. (only once it is coming, for the first spit)Please suggest , I am completely motivated to quit smoking.

Hi,

You may need to have sputum gram staining as well as AFB test to rule out any lungs source or infection for the blood. Sometimes throat may be source due to chronic cough as in smokers.

Clotting profile and blood counts as well as ESR may be needed along with chest radiograph to make a composite diagnosis of the reason. Meanwhile antacids and motilly agents like Domperidone for GERD may be continued.
