What Causes Pigmentation Problems?

hello doctor, im 22 year old i had pre-married sex and had to go for abortion sadly. But now i have goten pigmentation problem on my skin. i have consulted a dermotologist and he has said it its because of depression. what do u say is it because of abortion. regards aisha

Hello. Thank you for writing to us

You seem to have a skin condition, known as Melasma. It is idiopathic in most cases and is neither due to abortion Or depression.
Sun protection is essential part of management of facial hyperpigmentation.
I suggest you to use a broad spectrum sunscreen, throughout the day. Reapply every 2-3 hours.
In addition a pigment reducing agent like either Azaleic acid, kojic acid, hydroquinone etc, would help lighten pigmentation, if applied once or twice daily.
You may also opt for a few sessions of chemical peeling from your treating dermatologist.
