Hi,I am Dr. Robert Galamaga (Hematologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have Polycythemia Vera (high platelets and red blood cells, hematocrit). Im considering travelling to Thailand which has a high risk of Dengue fever (it causes low platelets). Is it more dangerous for me to get dengue fever than for a healthy person?
Hi, dear I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern. You have polycythemia vera. So your platelets count remains high. But it has no relation with risk of denguefever. It is caused by bite of mosquito ades. So you have same risk of dengue like other person. No need to worry. Just be relaxed. Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
