What Causes Poor Memory And Fatigue In Old Age?

HI I AM A HEALTHY 83 YEAR OLD, WIDOWER, I SEEM TO BE GETTING SLOWER AND FORGETFUL FOR ABOUT LAST 4 YEARS, SINCE MY WIFE PAST AWAY. I TIRE MORE EASILY, I AM VERY ACATIVE, SWIMMING LAPS, BIKEING SEVERAL MILES EVERY A.M. AND WALKIING ALMOST EVERY DAY, ALL THIS BESIDES HOUSE KEEPING. IT ALL HAPPEND RIGHT AFTER I RADIATION AND HORMONE SHOTS FOR PROSTATE CANCE, WHICH IS CLEAR AFTER 5 YEARS. WHAT AM I DESCRIBING TO YOU ???? DONALD

Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. You seem to be suffering from early Alzheimer's disease.
2. Slowing mentation and loss of memory are early stages. Medication needs to be started like aricept or namenda. Mini mental examination is necessary for further evaluation.
3. Treatment at this age is very stressful and is known to affect cognition and rapid deterioration in cognition is known to occur during hospitalization. Active involvement will improve cognition, however, if difficult medications are necessary.
