What Causes Popping And Crunching In Knee?

My husband is an Autobody technician and on Monday he was taking a car apart which requires alot of bending and kneeling. He started to walk down to the office and the knee start popping and crunching with pain. Do you have any ideas on what happened? He says now it also feels like it wants to give way. Thanks, Donna
