What Causes Positive Drug Test Result For Nicotine Despite Withdrawal?
My son was having issues with tobacco products so to help him I have been giving him nicotine urine tests at home and he is still testing positive even after 3 weeks with no nicotine use. He is really discouraged. Is there anything that could cause it to test positive?
Hello, Thank you for asking your question at healthcare magic.
Nicotine urine test detect the presence of cotinine, a metabolite of nicotine The test give negative results usually 2-4 days after smoking cessation. But if you smoked menthol cigarettes it can take upto 15-20 days.
False positive results occur if you are using nicotine gum or patch, smokeless tobacco like snuffs, diet rich in certain food like broccoli, cabbage, radishes etc.
Hope I was able to answer your question Please feel free to address any more concerns Regards, Dr.Lekshmi
