Hi, I had my upper left wisdom tooth extracted about 2 days ago. There is not much pain but if I gargle after I eat any food, some of the food comes out from my left nostril. Is it some thing that is part of the healing process or should I be worried?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that there is perforation of the floor of the maxillary sinus during extraction of the wisdom tooth as the roots of the upper wisdom tooth my lie in close proximity of the floor of sinuses and at times the roots can be present inside the sinuses.. There seems to be formation of ORO-ANTRAL FISTULA and as the sinuses drain through nose the food is coming out of nose after travelling from mouth to sinuses.. I would suggest you to immediately consult your treating physician and get evaluated and he can do a thorough clinical evaluation and can surgically close the extraction socket using the gum flaps to promote healing and prevent communication of the mouth and sinuses.. It should be taken care of as it can cause inflammation of sinuses leading to sinusitis.. It is not a part of healing process and needs immediate medical assistance..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
