What Causes Pounding Pain In The Lower Back During Bowel Movement?

Yesterday at work I was bearing down to have a bowel movement. Suddenly severe pounding pain occurred in the lower back of my head. After the first normal bm I got very loose bowels and stomach cramps. I am on beta blockers and my normal blood pressure is 100/74, pulse 64. My blood pressure spiked to 174/115. I call my PCP and she was not in. Her nurse told me to wait and hour and take my bp again. I did, it went down to 155/109. pulse 64. Today I have had a regular headache all day. My temples ache, and so does my neck. Any ideas?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history pounding pain at the back of head on forceful bowel movement, blood pressure shot up and there is now and the blood pressure is still high.
These complex problems occurring together can be due to the following reasons:
- Enteritis giving bacterimia and headache.
- Increased blood pressure too can cause headache.
- Neck nerves getting pinched can cause similar problems.

I would advise you the following:
- Get the stool and blood tested.
Clinical evaluation, examination and cardiac check up needs to be done and needs control of blood pressure and see if lowered blood pressure helps alleviating the headache.
You may need a proper antibiotic course if there is evidence of infection on testing.
