If vitamin K was prescribed then obviously your mom is having anticoagulant therapy and her coagulation status shold be corrected and then blood in stool may stop. If this doesnt happen then several other causes should be considered. In most cases causes of bleeding through rectum are benign and include hemorrhoids, anal fissure or rectal polyps. These are primarily treated with stool softener, diet and sitzbaths. If there is no improvement in next few weeks, then surgical management should be considered. Other causes may be more serious and include tumors or inflammatory bowel diseases and these should be ruled out with colonoscopy which must be done if there is low blood count present or rapid weight loss.
