What Causes Prolonged Cough?

Hi my son is 4 years old and has had a cough for 2 months. I took him to a doctor 4 days ago and they suspect asthma and has been given an inhaler. However his cough has gotten worse over the past two days especially at night. I rang the doctor today and she said the inhaler will take two weeks to work but thats too long to wait it out. He hasn t slept well for over 2 months and hasn t eaten properly in 2 months. What do i do

Hello
welcome to hcm
well there is no point in giving inhaler blindly on hitand trial basis without making a PRECISE AND ACCURATE DIAGNOSIS moreover inhaler is meant for IMMEDIETE RELIEF and its wrong to say that it takes 2 weeks to work....
anyways first and foremost the root cause of your sons cough and for that you need to get the following tests done

(1) CH WITH ABSOLUTE EOSINOPHILIC COUNT

(2) ESR

(3) PFT i.e PULMONARY FUNCTION TESTS

(4) XRAY OF CHEST

Once you get these tests done kindly send me the scanned copy of your reports so that i can evaluate to make a precise diagnosis and start the appropriate treatment

take care
dr rahul..
