What Causes Prolonged Vaginal Bleeding After A Child Birth?
Hi, my little one is now 9weeks old and im still bleeding. My labour was a straight forward verginal delivery but i hemeridged straight after delivery and lost 800ml of blood. No-one could pin point where the bleed was coming from and so once it sub-sided it was left. I was told my placenter was intake although it didnt come out with out a fight. I was given the drug to help deliver the placenter but my widwife managed to snap the cord after trying to pull it out.
My bleeding turned a brownish colour after 2weeks but then started bright red again (the only way i could discribe the colour is as if you were to cut your finger). I never did stop bleeding and the last 2weeks it has been quiet heavy, I could fill a pad in a couple of hours.
after my first baby i only bleed for four weeks, should i be worried?
I understand your concern and will do everything I can to answer your question.
Congratulations on your new baby.
What you are describing can be normal or can be the signs of a retained placenta - a tiny corner of the placenta that didn't come out at the time of delivery. It is not an uncommon problem: once or twice a year one of our (I work with midwives) patients needs a D&C to remove a part of the placenta. It is difficult to look at the placenta after deliver and be sure that it all passed, I am sorry. It is frustrating and can be scary but it does happen and it can be easily fixed. The only way to tell for sure is a pregnancy test and ultrasound or exam in the office. I would let your midwife know and I am sure they will be happy to see you in the next day or two. Good luck and best of wishes
