Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello! I have been concerned with a certain part on my left rib cage. I started noticing it when I was in 8th grade (I m now in 10th). From the outside it looks like some kind of protrusion and when you push on it with your fingers it feels harder, like cartilage. I got this checked out in the ER in 8th grade but they weren t quite sure what it was. When I compare my right side to my left (the left side has the protrusion), I notice that the structure of my ribs feel really wacky and not at all normal like the right side. Lately I have been experiencing tenderness and pain as well in the left side. Any ideas of what this could possibly be? It s closer to the bottom, and hasn t changed size or anything.
I will advise you to do MRI thoracic spine, HRCT [CHEST] and EMG- NCV [nerve conduction study] For these symptoms analgesic and neurotropic medication can be started. Till time, avoid lifting weights, Sit with support to back. You can consult physiotherapist for help. Physiotherapy like ultrasound and interferential therapy will give quick relief. I will advise to check your vit B12 and vit D3 level.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
Wishing you good health.
Take care
