Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 86 yo mother has PAD & therefore had a angiogram & angioplasty (2-3 100% blockage & stents). 2 hour surgery / recovery for 2 hours then removed line . Right away bleeding profusely &nurse called for help with a ER doctor, ICU nurse, & another nurse. Nurse had strattle her & put direct pressure on the groin area with her hands approximately 25-30min. After this a waiting period again of 2 1/2 hours then she stayed overnight discharged next day. One week later groin area & left leg extremely black & blue & swollen 3x times it s size. Took to ER ultrasound discovered she now has a pseudo aneurysm. I m now suspecting this was caused when nurse took line out .... or was done with angioplasty ..... what caused this????? After this time she spent 6 days in hospital now sent home & has appointment for another ultrasound in 6 weeks & possibly another procedure of some kind. So what is going on Dr s are pretty tight lipped & are not explaining much which I find really unusual.
Hi, this is the complication of the procedure. Pseudoaneurysm is basically bulging of the wall of the artery where the puncture it to enter into the artery, most of the case it seals within a day or two. However sometimes artery bulges out at the site leading to pseudoaneurysm. The treatment for this is tight pressure or compression at the site. From your site restrict her activities to minimal for few weeks. Sometimes if it's big then surgery is needed to repair it.
