What Causes Purple Discoloration On Bottom Of Foot After A Injury?
I am a healthy 38yr old female.I was walking the other day and out of nowhere,my left foot started to hurt extremely bad and started to bulge up at the ankle. The bottom of my foot got really hard. The next day it was completely purple with what looked like bruising. I could not walk on it for 2 days. My pcp said i may have ruptured a vein. From what i have seen though, ruptured veins dont hurt like this did. It felt like needles on the bottom of my foot and i could not move my toes for 2days. Any idea what this may have been?

From your history, it seems more like ruptured or inflamed vein only. Ruptured vein will not pain in same way everywhere. It may give no pain at all or minimal pain in loose tissue compartment but may be very painful if it is in tight tissue compartment like around ankle.
The other possibility is a bug/insect bite followed by hypersensitivity reaction or some injury due to thorn or stone. In case of bug/insect bite, pain should be associated with itching. In case of injury, it is less likely that it went unnoticed.
So, it must be due to ruptured vein. You should take some analgesic like paracetamole along with local application of thrombophob. It should resolve in a few days.

As per the description of your clinical symptoms, it seems that you may have the following probabilities:
1. There may be any incidence of traumatic injury to the site , and as described by your treating Doctor, it is ruptured veins of that area causing the purple discolouration. It usually takes around 2 weeks time to resolve. you may use Thrombophob gel locally thrice daily for 5 days, and use oral analgesics (pain killers ) thrice daily for 3 days.If symptoms persists for long please go for a MRI of the the area and consult your physician.
2. Another possibility is there may be a Calcaneal spur which often presents with similar pricking sensation. My advice would be wear a soft shoe and get a X-Ray done (lateral and oblique view of your foot ) and visit a Orthopedician for further evaluation and management.
