For the past few days, I have oozing and pus coming out from my belly button. The area around it is red and slightly swollen. It seems now that it is painful to bend. I am draining it periodically and washing it with peroxide and clindomycin gel. Is it dangerous. Should I see a doctor or continue doing what I am doing
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your it seems that pus in belly button along with redness and swelling and pain on bending seems to be due to due to infection in the belly button area and can occur most commonly due to bacterial infection.. As the area of belly button is having such a structure that there can be moisture accumulation in the area and bacteria has it as a favourable environment for multiplication leading to infection causing pus formation and pain.. I would suggest you to consult a General Surgeon and get evaluated and he can do a proper drainage of the area and also do an antiseptic dressing.. He can also advise you a course of antibiotics like a combination of Sulphamethoxazole and Trimethoprim.. Along with it take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen.. Keep the area dry and clean and avoid moisture accumulation..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
