Hello!
Thank you for asking on HCM!
Regarding your concern, I would explain that when dealing with wheezing, it is necessary to perform a comprehensive differential diagnosis, ruling out/in first underlying pumonary, as well as cardiac disorders.
As your complains have started from early childhood, respiratory airways hyperreactivity, asthma should be ruled out first.
From the other side, even several congenital heart disorders may be associated bwesides other clinical signs, with
pulmonary distress and even wheezing.
Rapid heart rate (
tachycardia) is an almost always present finding when a stressful condition is occurring, like
respiratory distress, a cardiac performance impairment, etc. which lead to severe hypoxemia.
To differentiate the exact reason of wheezing and tachycardia, a careful medical evaluation is necessary.
A physical exam, resting ECG, chest X ray, coupled with some lab tests, like
complete blood count, PCR, blood glucose, etc,
arterial blood gas analysis, pulmonary function test, and if suspicions are raised a cardiac
ultrasound will be able to properly define the exact etiological factor behind your complains.
I recommend you to consult your doctor (internist or GP) to discuss about the above mentioned issues, and to build a meticulous cheduled diagnositic work up for better arriving to causative factors.
Hope to have been helpful! Greetings! Dr. Iliri
