Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son is 16. He is 6 10 tall and 200 pounds. He plays high school basketball. Before the season, he took a full physical. Earlier today, during practice, he began having a rapid heart beat that raced for about 10 minutes. It scared him and he stopped practice. He is fine now and says he feels great. What do you think?
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns. Sudden racing of the pulse may be due to tachyarrhythmias . Tachyarrhythmias may occur for a short period due to paroxysmal supra-ventricular tachycardia, commonly. Your son needs to undergo 12 lead ECG with long lead II/rhythm strip for 1 minute as initial investigation. He may have to undergo stress test +/- holter monitoring to determine the exact nature of Tachyarrhythmia.
