What Causes Rapid Heart Beats?

i have a rapid heart beat, and when i think about it, it gets worse. i take propranerol and now my heart beats very slowly and sometimes i feel like it stops for about a second. I think about it all the time and i'm constantly checking my pulse. Do i have a heart condition, or am i just being paranoid and causing myself to panic?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Rapid heartbeat can be caused most commonly due to dehydration, anemia, low blood pressure, thyroid issues or taking too much caffeine & alcohol.

Avoid addictions if any & take homemade food, avoid greasy food. Stay well hydrated & avoid stress & anxiety. Maintain weight as per BMI.

Visit ER, get physically examined, get lipid profile, CBC, Urinalysis, ECG, X-ray, stress tests are done to rule out any developing CAD.

Your treatment will depend upon the pathology detected.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
