What Causes Rapid Heart Rate After Increasing The Dosage Of Thyroid Medication?

Hi. I was told by my endocrinologist that my thyroid was low so he upped my medication. I went from 50mcg five days a week and 100mcg on the weekend to fifty mcg Monday-Thursday and 100mcg Friday-Sunday. My heart started to beat rapidly and flip flop, it felt like. Now I just have the flip flop feeling, no rapid heartbeat. I have been back to my original dose for going on two weeks, I think. Just wondered if I should see my dr. My most recent blood work came back with my thyroid being in normal range.

Hello,

If your thyroid hormone level is normal, then nothing to worry. It may be due to change of drug dosage.

If it remains persistent, then consult your treating doctor, otherwise it's OK. Mostly, it will become normal within few days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hardik Sanghvi
