What Causes Rapid Heart Rate After Taking Amitriptyline Tablet?
I have a number of health issues. I have a rapid heart rate even thought I take blood pressure meds for high BP and rapid heart rate and my physician is referring me to cardiology. Could the continue rapid heart rate be due to Amitryptyline? I take 20 mg Amitriptyline for migraines.
Hi & Welcome to HCM. I appreciate your concern for the safety of Amitryptiline tablet.
Increased heart beats & fall in BP are the important side effects of Amitryptiline. Since you are already taking medications for high BP and rapid heart rate, the use of Amitryptiline may exaggerate this problem hence it should not be used along with those medications.
Consult your doctor for an alternative but safer drug for the treatment of migraine without having an adverse impact on the heart rate and BP. The following drugs can be used under the supervision of your treating doctor: Beta blocker (Propranolol), Valproic acid or Carbamazepine.
Hope to have answered your query. Regards.
