What Causes Rash On Legs Spreading To Arms And Abdomen?

I went to see a dermatologist because my doctor would not give me steroid pills for my rash on my leg as my previous doctor had done. It then spread up my leg, over my knees about 5 inches, the rash also is on my arms, and my abdomen down to my pubic bone. Today it looks like it is on the perimeter of my armpits and in the area of my groin and my breasts are also itching. The dermatologist gave my a prescription for steroids and I took them for 5 days, it appeared to help, but has returned. It had been treating it as eczema, but the dermatologist, took some skin for a biopsy, will not know the results for a week. He also mentioned it could be a kind of cancer but I cannot remember the name because it was a long name. can you make any guesses about what he may have mentioned. I am a 74 year old woman.

Hello,

I can understand your concern for rash on legs spreading to arms and abdomen.

There can be multiple causes of your rash on legs spreading to arms and abdomen. You have not mentioned your exact medical history and related triggers of rash on legs spreading to arms and abdomen.

In my opinion it could be due to due to simple Urticaria or vasculitis or contact dermatitis . I suggest you to keep a watch over these areas and meet a dermatologist for the battery of investigations required for the same.

I generally go for routine blood examination and patch test to know the exact cause. Till that time I suggest my patients to apply a cream containing mild steroid such as fluticasone over the affected area. I also advise my patients to take antihistamine like Levo-cetrizine.
