What Causes Rashes On Arms After Getting Lupron Depot Injection?
My husband has had three Lupron Depot injections. With the most recent injection, he has developed an itchy rash under his arms. He called his urologist who did not return his call; a non-medical office worker told him to use Cortisone. If this is a side-effect, should there be concern regarding future doses?
Hi and welcome to HCM! First of all you need to clarify whether the itching and redness are localised to the site of injection or are they away from it as you seem to mention. Itching and redness at the site alone could be due to slight extravasation of the drug resulting in mild allergic reaction. If there are multiple itchy raised spots over other areas of body also, then its definitely a sign of generalised allergy and hence a cause of concern. However, if he has itching under his arms only like in axilla, it may be due to some cutaneous fungal infection which is more common in hot and humid climates. Another possibility is of contact allergic dermatitis because of the cleansing material used. Cortisone cream is helpful to treat only this third possibility and not at all indicated in fungal infection. So, it may be advisable to have your dermatologist have a look at it. In the meanwhile you can take levocetrizine 5 mg once to twice a day to control your itching. Hope your husband feels better soon.
