What Causes Recurred Sharp Pain Below The Knee Cap And Knuckle Area?

I recently had an active day where I ran almost 7 miles, then I played a few games of basketball later that same day. I felt fine afterward and only had the soreness that a 52 year old has normally. About three days later I bent down to pick up something and I felt a very sudden sharp pain coming from my left knee just below the knee cap and slightly to the outside below the knuckle area of the knee. I have exercised on it once (ran 3.5 miles and it was fine, but the pain has come back again. I have never felt this before. Please advise, thanks.

As per your explanation I suggest it is pain due to overuse at tendon area where muscles are ending below knee. This muscles are called as quadriceps and it all combine make one tendon from knee cap and ends below it. If there is a pain at the side of knee then it could be related to lateral ligament sprain. As per my opinion I suggest to use hot and cold pack for frequently in your free time and it should be fine.
But if there is too much pain with walking disability then visit a ortho doctor or physio and take x ray or mri to check there is nothing wrong in side.
I also suggest not to bend your knee too much that means folding beyond 100 should be avoided. As well do not do brisk walking and running activity for time being.
Hope this will be useful for you take care.
