What Causes Recurrent UTI?

Hi, I have had recurrent uti s over the past year, including a history of oxalate kidney stones. I saw a doctor last Thursday and the diagnosis was uti, kidney stone (3mm. ) in L ureter, and an ovarian cyst (3.5 cm) on the R side. I have not yet passed the stone. I was on Macrobid for 5 days, but I am still having symptoms with extreme bloating, painful urination, difficulty sitting up, and difficulty walking. I saw another doctor this morning and had another urinalysis done. My urine looked dark in spite of drinking plenty of water. The Dr. did not call back with test results. My question is: should I be concerned about anything more serious, such as bladder or ovarian cancer? I am a 51 year old female.

I am Dr Fahim, and I will be answering your query . . .

I have gone through your question and understood your concerns. You problem is recurrent Urinary Tract Infections and you are worried that it might be some cancer. Well cancer of urinary tract doesn't present this way, rather it appears to be some resistant organism which is causing this infection or condition in your urinary tract is favoring its growth. If you used antibiotics as you mentioned , earlier then its recommended that you go for URINE FOR CULTURE SENSITIVITY as simple urine analysis is not going to help, which will not only tell us about organism responsible for infection but will also guide us about appropriate antibiotics. Secondly you need ULTRASONOGRAPHY KIDNEYS, URETER AND URINARY BLADDER. This will help us to find any stricture/stone etc causing urinary stasis and making environment favorable for UTI.

I hope my answer will help you. Please do rate my answer if you like it
