What Causes Recurrent And Severe Tinnitus While Having Meniere S Disease?

I have had ear plugging and tinnitusin my right ear since December. In January I had a normal exam and hearing test with my ENT. In less than 6 weeks I had lost nearly all my hearing in that ear. I was put on high doses of prednisone for 12 days. the day after I finished the steroids the plugging and hearing loss came back. I was put on another 12 days of steroids. My ENT insists its a vascular problem even though my Brain MRI was Normal as was my brain and neck MRA. I saw another ENT who thinks I have an autoimmune disease. I had some autoimmune blood work with my PMD which is all normal. This week I had an appointment with a neurologist who has diagnosed me with Menieres disease even though I do not have vertigo. My hearing seems to come and go and the tinnitus is getting worse. Every Dr so far has had a different opinion and I m feeling confused and scared.

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Underlying cause of Meniere's disease is unknown. What is known is that there is a fluid imbalance, generally a pressure build-up, within the semicircular canals that causes the hair cells to react as though the head is spinning when, in fact, it is not. There is also generally a feeling of fullness in the ears. This can also be caused by a viral or bacterial infections or leakage from the labyrinth into the middle ear. These conditions can be treated medically and anyone experiencing vertigo should see their doctor.

same time rule out other possibile causes tinnitus like drugs or auto immune disease or acute labyrinthitis or vertibro basilar insufficiency or age related.

please consult your neurophysician/ENT specialist they will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
